Existing state of the organization

IFF is a leading innovator of sensorial experiences with a presence across 162 countries. Their systems relied on data extracts from core system (SAP) for inputs. However, this data was requested at varying intervals of time, causing performance issues in SAP and reporting delays.

Challenges

Data extraction to downstream applications was cumbersome, causing frequent performance issues

Since extracts were not centralized, data sync and reporting was time-consuming across locations

Delays in knowing the status of orders impacted procurement decisions, resulting in loss of business opportunities

There was a need to bridge SAP with downstream applications and make information decision-ready and available in-time. IFF had already invested in Talend, but data transformation challenges remained to be addressed.

Solution overview

Chosen to implement Talend at IFF, Gainlnsights played a key role in designing the ETL process, the data lake architecture and project managing the complete transformation.

A data lake was created to store and manage all their data for current, future needs and to populate data to all downstream applications using Ta lend.

Information was made available to application users in ~30 mins (from a delay of ~1 day) with jobs running ~ every 7 mins

Data from core system was extracted and pushed to the lake on a near real-time basis
