Dashboards to Insights with MCP – The New Frontier

AI agents can now build BI reports by connecting to Microsoft Fabric. But enabling an agent to access data is only part of the equation. The architecture behind that access determines whether the resulting analytics can be trusted.

In this webinar, we look at how MCP can connect to a governed Fabric platform, allowing agents to work with a defined semantic layer rather than directly with raw source systems.

This creates a common foundation for AI-generated reports, Power BI dashboards, and conversational Q&A, with the same data definitions and business context supporting each experience.

What we will cover

Using a live, end-to-end use case, we will demonstrate:

  • How source data is modelled into a governed semantic layer in Fabric
  • How MCP connects to Fabric and generates a Power BI report
  • How MCP explores the same data to answer questions directly
  • How the same semantic model supports Power BI dashboards and conversational Q&A
  • How agent outputs differ when working with governed versus ungoverned data

Who should attend

Technology and data leaders, solution and data architects, senior BI and analytics developers, Fabric platform owners, and governance teams exploring how AI agents can interact with enterprise data.

Key takeaway

As AI agents take on more of the work of exploring data and building analytics, the semantic and governance layers become more important. Reports, dashboards, and conversational interfaces are different ways of working with the data. The governed data platform underneath provides the consistent foundation for all of them.
